The Department

Alfred Health’s Dietetics and Nutrition Department provides an integrated service at The Alfred, Sandringham and Caulfield Hospitals. This position is based at The Alfred Hospital. The joint Dietetics and Nutrition Department is comprised of approximately 48 EFT and 65 people. It is organised into eight clinical streams and provides a 7-day service. Using evidence-based, patient-centred care, it provides clinical expertise to Alfred Health’s patients during their healthcare journey, including the prevention and treatment of malnutrition and the optimisation of nutritional wellbeing and recovery through tailored, specialised nutrition therapy.

 

The Dietetics and Nutrition Department has a long and valued relationship with The Alfred, with the first dietitian being employed in 1930. It has a proud history of clinical and academic excellence. The Department has strong relationships with Monash and Latrobe University Nutrition Departments and is integral to the clinical teaching and training of student dietitians. 

 

The Position Summary

The Grade 3 Oncology Dietitian is responsible for the leadership, continued development and provision of nutrition services for Alfred Health’s Oncology Program. They will work collaboratively with other members of the multidisciplinary team including medical, nursing, Allied Health and food service staff to advance patient centred-care. This position holds clinical operation leadership for a small team of Dietitians in the Oncology Stream of the Dietetics and Nutrition Department. Clinical expertise in oncology nutrition, strong leadership skills, student and staff supervision and a proven track record of coordination and implementation of quality initiatives in clinical nutrition are key aspects of this role.

 

Skills and Qualifications Required 

  • Possesses qualifications providing eligibility for full membership of Dietitians’ Australia (DA) and participation in the APD program.
  • 7 years of clinical experience, with specialist experience in oncology nutrition of at least 3 years.
  • Higher qualification in (or proceeding towards) Health Professional Education, Management, Public Health, Research or other relevant field of study (highly desirable).
