The Department

The headspace Early Psychosis Recovery program offers young people tailor made programs designed to enhance personal recovery. The goals of these programs may include: developing a positive identity, understanding personal health and mental health, developing self-management tools and engaging in valued social roles. The recovery program includes some components whereby those with expertise by experience of mental illness/distress will work alongside those with expertise by profession to devise and deliver the programs.

The Role

This position is permanent, part-time, and is based between the headspace Bentleigh Hub and the Narre Warren/Dandenong and Frankston Spokes.

This exciting position requires knowledge and expertise in exercise physiology combined with understanding, skills and interest in youth mental health. The focus of the position is to provide individual and group Exercise Physiology services within a health and lifestyle stream as part of the headspace Early Psychosis Recovery program.

The Exercise Physiologist provides individually tailored Exercise Physiology assessment and intervention on a mostly individual basis with some provision of group programs and possibility of involvement in co-production and co- facilitation of relevant Discovery College courses and provision of consultation to headspace Early Psychosis staff as appropriate. There is a key focus on promoting and enabling access to these health and lifestyle interventions for young people seen within the clinical programs (Continuing Care and MATT services). This will involve some assertive engagement and outreach with young people to ensure access to service.

The headspace Early Psychosis program operates from a “Hub and spoke” model, with the “Hub” located at Bentleigh and “Spokes” at Elsternwick, Frankston, Narre Warren and Dandenong. Recovery Program services are offered to young people at all of the sites. Currently the position operates with a day spent at three headspace Early Psychosis sites, Bentleigh, Frankston, Narre Warren and Dandenong. The capacity to undertake and contribute to service development and quality projects is essential.

  • Assist the Grade 2 Exercise Physiologist with supporting Exercise Physiology students.
  • Engage in service development tasks as appropriate such as:
  1. Contribute to design and collection of information on outcomes for young people and families
