About the Department 

Alfred Health Pharmacy is well recognised for high quality and innovative patient- focused services, education and training programmes as well as significant research output. The service operates over 4 sites within Alfred Health, and continually advocates for postgraduate learning and research interests, with supportive partnerships and expert mentors available to foster staff development.  

The department also has a leading Digital Health strategy, playing a pivotal role in managing the electronic medication management system within our comprehensive electronic medical record (Cerner), with an advanced level of integration linking this to the Pharmacy Dispensing (iPharmacy) and Automated Medication Storage systems (Omnicell). This is complemented by a strong clinical presence and a Centre for Medicine Use and Safety program to achieve a considered, safe and financially responsible approach to medication management within Alfred Heath.

About the Team 

The Pharmacy Operations team consists of both pharmacists and pharmacy technicians working across all campuses and services across Alfred Health. The pharmacy department is recognised as an essential member of all clinical teams, actively engaging in a unit and team-based care model involving ward rounds and collaborating closely with the multidisciplinary team to achieve excellent patient care outcomes. The service has 3 key priorities:  

  • Practice 
  • Education 
  • Research 

As part of these priorities, the department holds a breadth of clinical stewardship and governance portfolios to ensure high quality and safety standards at all times. The department also has advanced education programs to support career progression, for both pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.  

About the Role 

Senior Pharmacy Technicians play a vital role in medication delivery at Alfred Health to ensure patients' medications are available in a safe and timely manner. The Alfred Health Senior Pharmacy Technician role has several key rotations to support the ongoing needs of the Pharmacy Department.  

  • Aseptic services, including clinical trials 
  • Procurement and Distribution services 
  • Inpatient and outpatient services 
  • Ward Based and Medication Management services

 

You will work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary teams and the operational services to achieve the best medication management outcomes for our patients. You will contribute to improving medication management on a larger scale through contributing to research projects and service & process improvement work as required. As Alfred Health is an academic health centre, you will supervise and mentor local and international students as well as other pharmacy staff.

  • Ability to demonstrate leadership and decision making skills 
  • Problem-solving and risk assessment abilities and the ability to use initiative 
  • Excellent communication, time management skills with the ability to prioritise, plan and organise your work and deliver to deadlines 
  • Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams 

Qualifications & Experience required 

  • Certificate IV in Health (Hospital Pharmacy Technician) or equivalent 
  • Minimum of three years full-time experience as a qualified Pharmacy Technician 
  • Experience supervising or training staff desirable 
  • Experience of data collection for audit or research purposes.
