The Department
The Medical Oncology Clinical Trials Unit provides co-ordinated multidisciplinary management for adult patients with malignancies. An important component of this care are the Clinical Trial/Research activities we participate in, which enable us to offer forthcoming investigational treatments to our patients.
Alfred Cancer Trials (ACT) conducts phase I, II and III trials, and is a participating member of both National and International Clinical Trials Groups, incorporating both pharmaceutical industry sponsored and investigator driven studies across a wide range of tumour types. With a growing and high performing team, and a comprehensive and expanding portfolio of trials, the unit is helping to promote the advances of cancer diagnostics and therapeutics.
The Role
Every Alfred Health nurse must practice in accordance with the Alfred Health Nursing Professional Practice Framework.
The Professional Practice Framework defines the elements of nursing practice that improve the care and experience of our patients and aligns with the Patient’s Come First Strategy.
It is comprised of five domains that are crucial to maintain standards, lead change and add value to healthcare. These domains are Care, Leadership, Professional Development, Workforce, Research and Informatics. In your role as a Level 2 Research Nurse you will work on a range/s of research project/s for Collaborative and Sponsored trials, for Medical Oncology Research. You will be working along-side a group of experienced Oncology researchers who share knowledge and assist each other in their project recruitment and management.
Whilst primarily focused on projects related to Medical Oncology, the research nurse will have the opportunity to work on other research projects under the direction of the principle investigator as part of the research nurse team.
Skills and Experience Required
- Ability to prioritise tasks and meet critical timelines, effectively and collaboratively with the multidisciplinary research team.
- Ability to generate new approaches and ideas to improve the operational aspects of studies and to bring these concepts to investigators for discussion
- Knowledge and experience as relevant for the research clinical context
- Understanding of ICH-GCP, privacy laws, regulatory and ethical issues in clinical research
- Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills
- Thorough understanding of the principles of confidentiality
- Ability to use a range of contemporary computer applications (i.e. Microsoft office, Excel, Access and web-based applications).
Essential
- Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia via AHPRA.
- Current and satisfactory Police Check
- Current and satisfactory Working with Children Check
- Relevant post graduate education or progress towards achievement
Desirable
- Previous experience as a research nurse
- Oncology experience/ADAC training
- Relevant postgraduate qualification
- Certificate in Good Clinical Practice
