Department  

This Specialist Family Violence Advisor Program has been developed to contribute towards recommendations 98 and 99 of the Royal Commission into Family Violence. These recommendations require the establishment of specialist family violence advisors to provide expertise to mental health services.  

The Alfred Mental and Addiction Health Specialist Family Violence Advisor program is responsible for:  

  1. Build family violence capability and capacity 

  1. Support collaboration 

  1. Provide Secondary Consultation 

  1. Support Family Violence Multi-Agency Risk Assessment and Management (MARAM) alignment and embedding 

  1. Engage with State-wide Specialise Family Violence Advisor activity 

Position Summary  

This opportunity to work in a senior Family Violence Clinician role is one of service enhancement and development. The position will work to support the Alfred Mental and Addiction Health Family Violence Advisor in increasing staff competence, provide senior clinical oversight and build capacity across AMAH to improve outcomes for consumers and families who have experienced family violence.   

The Senior Family Violence Clinician position will: 

  • Provide secondary consultation and clinical expertise on family violence practice to all staff.  

  • Deliver family violence education and training.   

  • Review extreme family violence alerts and where necessary provide enhanced clinical service. 

  • Implement information sharing and determination as part of the Family Violence Team across Alfred Health. 

  • Engage with risk panels providing clinical expertise  

  • Provide primary consultations on family violence practice for identified staff and services within AMAH.  

  • Provide debriefing and reflective learning opportunities on family violence to all staff  

  • Support the implementation of recommendations made by the Family Violence Royal Commission to enhance the capacity of mental health services in identifying and responding to family violence.  

Qualifications and Experience Required  

  • Degree in Social Work 

  • Experience working in a clinical role with people affected by family violence. 

  • Knowledge of the Multi-Agency Risk Assessment and Management (MARAM) Framework and its application 

  • Knowledge of the impact of family violence on mental health and development across the life span. 

  • Experience in providing clinical support and secondary consultation to staff and the ability to exercise professional judgement and/or seek advice and consultation, when needed.
