On 1 January 2026, Alfred Health will come together with Kooweerup Regional Health Service, Peninsula Health, Bass Coast Health and Gippsland Southern Health Service to create Bayside Health, a newly merged health service with more than 22,000 employees caring for a community of over 1.2 million Victorians. The new health service will provide people with the best possible care with services that support them throughout their lives. The merger will also strengthen our workforce, providing new training, education and career opportunities. Subject to final approval on 1 January 2026, all employees from the five health services will transfer to Bayside Health.

The Department

The Medical Oncology Unit provides a coordinated medical service for adult patients with cancer, in conjunction with The Alfred’s comprehensive Surgical, Intensive Care, Radiation and Palliative Care services. We offer a complete range of state-of-the-art treatments for all cancers, including via clinical trials, and links to cutting edge technology and research initiatives through our affiliation with Monash University. 

The Role

Working closely with the Director’s Personal Assistant, the position has responsibility for providing general administration support to the Unit. This includes managing communications directed to the Unit; liaising with internal departments i.e. IT, engineering, supply, payroll; coordinating unit meetings and rosters; document preparation; private patient billing; and data entry. 

Qualifications and Experience Required

Essential

  • Prior administration experience in a health care setting
  • Excellent oral skills, specifically referable to management of patient incoming/outgoing communications
  • Exemplary interpersonal skills, a professional, diplomatic, calm and accommodating demeanour
  • Ability to work autonomously or as part of a team      

Desirable

  • Current working knowledge of Cerner Software and iPM
  • Understanding of medical terminology
  • Understanding and experience supporting Private Inpatient Billing and Medicare Bulk Billed clinics
