The Department
The Alfred Health Outpatients Program is responsible for the delivery of a number of non-admitted services across the organisation as well as several services that support the delivery of clinical care, including Specialist Consulting Clinics, GP Liaison Service, Telehealth and Patient Portal Support, Health Information Service and the Referral In service.
Direct clinical care is delivered by the Specialist Consulting Clinics which provide scheduled medical, nursing and allied health services to non-admitted patients at all three campuses and via telehealth. Approximately 1200 patients are treated daily across Alfred Health Specialist Consulting Clinics within surgical, medical and other specialties.
The Health Information Service provides a range of functions including VAED reporting, medical record management and clinical information requests, Switchboard and enquiries services.
The Role
Every Alfred Health nurse must practice in accordance with the Alfred Health Nursing Professional Practice Framework.
The Professional Practice Framework defines the elements of nursing practice that improve the care and experience of our patients and aligns with the Patient’s Come First Strategy.

The Nurse Manager is a professional and clinical leader in Nursing Services and plays a pivotal role in meeting broader organisational imperatives. The Nurse Manager operationalises the core values of Nursing at Alfred Health by ensuring a safe and supportive environment for patients and staff. She/He is accountable for developing staff to deliver excellence in clinical practice, and is responsible for managing clinical risk and implementing systems and processes to improve patient outcomes.
The Nurse Manager facilitates effective patient access to clinical services managing both financial and human resources to meet these needs.
The Nurse Manager (NM) Specialist Clinics (Outpatients) is a key member of the Outpatients Program management team and Specialist Clinics services who operationalises the core values of the organisation and plays a pivotal role in meeting the broader organisational imperatives. The NM provides operational management and clinical leadership to the Specialist Clinics team and is responsible for managing clinical risk and implementing systems and processes to improve patient outcomes in the Specialist Clinics. The Nurse Manager is responsible for Specialist Clinics (all campuses) clinical operations, finances, business continuity and emergency situations and will escalate where appropriate to the Director of Operations and Program Director, Outpatients as well as key stakeholders from other Programs.
The Nurse Manager facilitates timely outpatient care, access and flow in the Specialist Clinics
Qualification & Experience Required
- Registered as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia via AHPRA.
- Degree in healthcare / business management or working towards same.
- Recent extensive clinical nursing experience in relevant health service.
- Current and satisfactory Police Check
- Current and satisfactory Working With Children Check
