The Department

The Digital Health Division supports and maintains ICT across Alfred Health. Services include helpdesk, desktop support, telecommunications (phones, mobiles, pagers), nurse call, security systems, server and network support, application support for enterprise systems, business analysis, project management, IT training, visual communications. Over fifty technical staff support an environment comprising over 4000 network-connected desktop computers and over 200 servers. In addition, IT Services manages the wide area network and data centres for several other health services.

The Role

The position requires the applicant to be highly skilled in software engineering techniques including previous experience in the use of functional and Object- O r i e n t e d technologies. These include but are not limited to: Java and/or VB libraries and frameworks; Web applications, Servlets and JSP; Webservers (WebSphere,Tomcat and Sun Java WebServer) ; JDBC (Oracle); database programming using SQL; Web programming HTML and CSS; XML; JavaScript; JQuery; AJAX and JSON and use of source control and development tools. The purpose is to support the development of customised Clinical Information with Mpages, Web technologies and CCL programming to enhance clinicians experience with using the Cerner Millennium applications used across Alfred Health.

Qualifications & Experience Required

Essential

  • University degree in computer science (equivalent) or higher qualification and work experience with a minimum of 4-5 years (as a guide) programming experience with exposure to systems design/web programming, reports and querying relational databases, Oracle and SQL.
  • Extensive experience with programming languages for example, but not limited to C#, C, Java, HTML, CSS, XML, SQL, JavaScript
  • Understanding of application integration concepts and exposure to the use of HL7 integration tools 
  • The successful candidate should be an expert or be willing to learn the tools used to support CCL and Mpage Development
  • Candidate should also possess knowledge or be willing to learn the Relational Cerner Millennium Data Model and suite of Applications
  • Knowledge of Mpages development will be an added advantage
  • Strong understanding of relational database concepts and proven ability to work with Cerner configuration tools.
  • Strong understanding of software development methodologies.
  • Knowledge of software version control concepts, change management concepts and software deployment tools.
  • Possess knowledge or be willing to learn the frontend application configuration tools.
  • Strong understanding and use of reporting tools.
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and support unfamiliar environments, systems and applications.
  • Ability to follow through on issues to completion.
  • Strong skills in preparing and maintaining accurate technical documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a team as well as a flexible approach to work.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
