The Department

 The Alfred Hospital Intensive Care Unit is one of Australia’s leading Intensive Care Units managing more than 3000 patients annually.

It is a university attached quaternary referral centre, providing State Services for heart & lung transplantation (including paediatric lung transplantation), artificial heart technology, burns and hyperbaric medicine. It also provides Victoria’s Adult Cystic Fibrosis and Pulmonary Hypertension services.

The Alfred ECMO team manages around 100 patients per year on extracorporeal support.

The Role

The Victorian ECMO Service (VES) state coordinator, in collaboration with the clinical lead of the VES will facilitate the operations of the newly established state service. The VES state coordinator will act as the main point of contact for data collection, educational activities, organisation of meetings, accreditation and credentialing records, guidelines communications and research projects as outlined below. They will also play a role in gathering consumer feedback and implementing strategies for improvement.

  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to problem solve and manage challenging issues openly
  • Ability to work effectively and provide support to staff
  • Demonstrate flexibility: open to new approaches or initiatives and prepared to try new ways of working.
  • Works autonomously but yet fosters teamwork.
  • Make decisions and solve problems.
  • Strong organisation and planning skills.
  • Experience with clinical project management, implementation science or research coordination.
  • Computer skills related to data entry excel and word.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in Health Sciences.
  • Driver’s licence.
  • Working with Children Check.
