The Department

The Alfred Orthotic Department offers a broad range of experience in this busy environment across a range of fields including Trauma, Orthopaedics, Neurosurgery, Plastics and Burns providing acute orthotic treatment and long term orthotic management to improve clients' quality of life. The Orthotic and Prosthetic Department is located at The Alfred, but also provides services to Caulfield Hospital, Sandringham Hospital and receives private referrals.

The Role

The Orthotist in this position would be an integral team member of the Orthotic Department and would work closely with other allied health professionals along with the Orthopaedic, Neurosurgery and Trauma medical teams.

The Orthotist would be available to participate in an on-call service and/or a weekend roster. The Orthotist would be responsible for services including acute orthopaedic and acute trauma inpatients, burns and plastics, diabetic high risk foot and outpatients; Subacute services are general rehabilitation (orthopaedic, aged care, neuro and spinal cord injuries rehabilitation) and acquired brain injury rehabilitation. Orthotist/Prosthetist Grade 2 will have a high clinical case load providing orthotic management, including assessment, treatment and review of inpatients and outpatients from a wide variety of clinical units. The selected candidate will be responsible for the ongoing development and provision of orthotic services to the units, and programs assigned to the Orthotist, which is dependent upon the specific rotation, in consultation with senior Grade 3 clinicians and the Manager of the department at the level of a developing expert.

The position may involve work at any of the 3 Alfred Health sites, The Alfred, Caulfield and Sandringham hospitals.

Skills and Qualifications Required

  • Experience in inpatient orthotic management

  • Eligible for Australian Orthotic & Prosthetic Association membership
