Alfred Health is a leader in health care delivery, improvement, research and education. We are the main provider of health services to people living in the inner southeast suburbs of Melbourne, from ambulatory, to inpatient and home and community based services.
The Alfred school work experience program provides students with an opportunity to gain insight into the health care industry.
The program is offered to students undertaking years 10-12. Students participating in the program are given an opportunity to spend one week working within available departments to observe and participate in the daily activities of those departments.
The department's that participate in our Work Experience program include –
- Occupational Therapy (placement is for 2 days)
- Rheumatology Unit
- Human Resources
- Engineering / Capital Works
Please note we are unable to take placement students in the following areas: Intensive Care Unit, Emergency Department, Operating Suites and Procedural Suites, including all Theatres and Procedural Rooms, Dental, Alfred Pathology Services and Patient and Family Services.
The program at The Alfred is very popular with students.
How to apply?
The formal application process will involve completing an online application form. Our online process allows students to have a greater understanding of the process involved when job seekers apply for positions within our hospital.

- The department you would like to complete your work experience placement
- How you think it will assist you in choosing your further career
- Preferred dates of your placement
Applications for 2020 work experience placements will close on Friday 17th January 2020.
