The Department

The Alfred Trauma Service is a busy inpatient clinical unit that provides and coordinates care of patients who require treatment of injury. The service is nationally and internationally renowned as a leader in trauma care, education, and trauma informatics.

The Alfred Health Trauma Registry (AHTR) sits within the Trauma Service and is an epidemiology, injury surveillance and performance monitoring program that provides high quality, reproducible, accessible data for quality improvement and research purposes. It has a statutory responsibility to submit quarterly data to the Victorian State Trauma Registry, which is pivotal to the monitoring of the Victorian State Trauma System (VSTS).

The Role

The Trauma Registry Data Clerk participates in the curation of the trauma dataset, of which the tasks thereof include but are not limited to data entry and data management. They will ensure that the records in the database meet inclusion criteria and will take responsibility for the quality and completeness of the data. Their professional agency and proven ability to meet time lines will contribute to the ongoing improvement of Registry operations. When working with all staff of the Trauma Unit, this person will require excellent interpersonal; problem solving; communication; organisational and time management skills. Diligence and commitment to the role are essential.

This short term project involves interrogation and completion of legacy data, much of which is missing due to technical issues that have occurred during migration from one database upgrade to the next. The gaps must be identified and filled to ensure that Registry data are of optimal quality and this issue is definitively addressed.
