The Department

Alfred Health Support Services provides non-clinical support services across Alfred Health, these services include cleaning services, car parking and fleet management, waste management, gardens and grounds, distribution, security and access control, ward support, linen services, ancillary services, food services and hospitality. 

The Role

The Chef is a key operational member of the Food Services team and works under the supervision of the Head Chef and the Food Services Manager. The Chef is responsible for ensuring that all menu items are of the highest quality at all times and that they meet the required guidelines on a nutritional level. Chef will also assist and direct Cooks in production of patient meals.  They will perform in a manner that meets or exceeds industry best practice and maintain cleaning standards in accordance with the Department of Human Services Cleaning Standards for Public Hospitals, food safety in line with the onsite Food Safety Plan, the Food Act 1984 and FSANZ standards and in doing so work closely with other Food Services team members to ensure we maintain a committed, safe and socially responsible multi skilled team.

Qualifications and Experience Required

Essential                  

  • A background of experience in Food Services as a Chef
  • Hospital experience will be advantageous but not necessary
  • Qualification (cert III/IV in commercial cookery)
  • Understanding of modified texture and special dietary needs
  • Extensive knowledge of food preparation
  • Have the ability and adaptability to participate in change

Desirable

  • Has experience leading a team of Food Service staff
