The Department

The Dermatology Department at Alfred Health provides treatment of all skin disorders, including severe cutaneous adverse reactions, inflammatory and autoimmune skin disease, non-melanoma skin cancers as well as skin assessments including for immunocompromised and transplant patients.The Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) is a registered nurse appointed to the nurse-led Dermatology Biologics Clinic who guides patients through the Biologics treatment pathway with (virtual) six-monthly re-prescribing reviews. 

The Role

The role uses expert clinical knowledge to provide advanced patient triage and assessment that informs and contributes to the development of optimal care planning and treatment care pathways. The CNC uses this specialist knowledge to educate clinicians, patients, families and carers which in turn assists their understanding of their diagnosis and subsequent treatments. The CNC provides consultation to patients in the Dermatology Biologics Clinic. The role facilitates effective patient access to clinical services managing both financial and human resources to meet these needs. The CNC is a key role within the dermatology unit. The CNC is required to work autonomously and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary health care team to provide comprehensive, appropriate and timely care to patients with a wide range of dermatological diseases including those receiving biologics therapy.

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • Currently Registered as a Registered Nurse with Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia via AHPRA.
  • Advanced clinical knowledge and skills in Dermatology and Biologic Therapy
  • Postgraduate qualification in nursing preferred/working towards Masters qualification
  • Experience with clinical research
  • Critical thinking skills & strong interpersonal and communication skills
