About the Team

The OHS team is made up of three high performing work areas (Injury Management, Health and Safety, and Training) that work in collaboration to deliver an end-to end Health and Safety business partnering service across four campuses; The Alfred, Sandringham, Caulfield and Melbourne Sexual Health Clinic. 

About the Role

This role is vital to the ongoing development and safety of Alfred Health employees. The AWARE team strives to lead the way in delivering quality training to equip Alfred Health employees with a range of skills to therapeutically manage clinical aggression in the work place. The objective of AWARE training is to prevent, reduce and therapeutically manage the impact of aggressive or violent incidents that may occur through the course of a clinician’s work. The main focus of this role is to provide strategies to minimise and manage clinical aggression.

The successful candidate will need to pursue various pertinent qualifications related to the subject matter and teaching. The OHS team will provide full support and funding for these qualifications. 

Duties

  • Work in partnership with the existing lead trainer to deliver a comprehensive training and education program. 
  • Assist in reviewing existing, designing and delivering tailored training workshops designed to meet the diverse and area specific concerns of the clinical and non-clinical workforce at risk of exposure from aggressive behaviour exhibited by patients of Alfred Health.
  • Review incidents from existing and emerging reporting platforms
  • Provide operational input when required, in assisting teams to manage patients whose behaviour may challenge and pose a risk to staff and others.
  • Assess training outcomes and participate in the ongoing evaluation process in the acute and sub - acute setting.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Bachelor Degree in Nursing or Allied Health or equivalent 
  • Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Cert IV in Assessment & Workplace Training (working towards or equivalent)
  • Extensive clinical experience
  • Broad understanding of, and interest in aggression management 
  • Commitment to and enthusiasm for OH&S
  • Ability to represent the AWARE and OHS teams on relevant committees
  • Demonstrated capacity for autonomy, initiative and to work appropriately with limited direction. 
  • Computer literacy and skill, including the proficient use of the Office 365 application, as well as incident reporting software (Riskman).
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy and understanding importance of excellent record keeping standards and safety KPIs.
  • High level written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of stakeholders
  • Current Victorian Drivers Licence and the ability to travel between Alfred Health worksites as required 

Desirable

  • Previous or current experience of training in clinical settings (experience in training in aggression management preferred) 
  • Enjoys training people and comfortable addressing various groups of people
  • Demonstrate ability to adapt to changing environments   
  • Excellent time management and organisation skills.
