The Department
The Alfred Health Social Work Service operates across The Alfred, Caulfield and Sandringham Hospitals. The Social Work Service includes approximately 52 EFT (operational reports) with an additional 70 EFT (professional reports) who provide interventions to inpatients and outpatients across all Alfred Health clinical programs. The Social Work Service is aligned to the Alfred Health strategic goals and operational performance targets. The Social Work Service is committed to the teaching and ongoing professional education of staff and students, research and quality improvement activities. All Social Work staff must be eligible for AASW registration and meet the profession’s competency-based minimum standards of practice at all times. The Alfred Health Social Work Service provides the workforce for each clinical program and therefore supports each clinical program meeting performance targets including patient experience, access, elective surgery and waitlist management measures.
The Role
This is an exciting new role for a Grade 4 Social worker to assist Alfred Health in supporting staff with clinical supervision and operational support across Alfred Health. The Grade 4 Social worker is responsible for providing clinical supervision, guidance and support to Senior Social workers to ensure high quality service delivery and patient centred care. The role will promote a culture of excellence, inclusivity and professionalism through the development of high-level supervisory skills across the senior staffing cohort and providing opportunities for emerging supervisors to acquire the necessary skills to supervise junior staff. There will be an emphasis on developing a matrix of innovative supervisory models including peer supervision and reflective practice supervision. As our service develops and expands the current supervisory structure needs to be reviewed and updated to ensure line management and supervisory responsibilities are clearly articulated and aligned. A renewed structure will require change management skills to implement and support across the organisation. The role will also focus on mentoring and coaching supervisees and monitor and implement quality improvement activities that support and promote a strong supervisory model. The role will also assist in the clinical operational requirements of the Social work department across Alfred Health, including managing Recuritment, Kronos, Payroll and will carry responsibility for the portfolio covering National Quality Health Standards accreditation processes for the department.
This role may require the successful candidate to work across our three campuses as the need arises. This includes, The Alfred, Caulfield and Sandringham Hospitals. Skills and Qualifications Required
- Eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers. Bachelor of Social Work, or recognised equivalent.
- Extensive experience in staff and student supervision
Key Responsibilities
- Provide clinical supervision to Senior Social Work staff as per discipline and AASW Guidelines.
- Provide a mentoring role for Grade 2 Social Work Staff around supervision
- Respond to requests from the Manager and Deputy Manager of the Social work Department to provide extra training /support for staff requiring specialised supervision skills
- Participate in supervision for senior staff members as per discipline and AASW Guidelines and participate in Professional Development, Work Planning & Annual Discussions.
- Actively engage in Professional Development Plans and model a commitment to learning.
- Support senior staff when required to engage in performance management discussions
- Work collaboratively with the Grade 4 Complex Care Lead to coordinate support and supervision for staff managing complex cases involving risk
- Review documentation of supervisory sessions across the organisation
- Develop a coordinated system of electronic storage of supervision notes and records
- Manage staff leave, payroll, recruitment processes in consultation with other senior staff
- Actively participate in internal and external continuing education.
- Ability to provide leadership for the National Quality Health Standards portfolio
- Extensive operational experience preferably in a health setting is essential
- AASW Training and Qualifications relating to supervision will be essential
- Masters of Social work or progress towards a Masters is desired
- Experience in an acute and or sub acute hospital setting is preferable
- Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team and with families, exhibiting initiative and facilitative qualities
- Knowledge of Hospital discharge planning processes is vital for this role
- Knowledge of working within an Electronic medical record will be required for this role
- Victorian Drivers Licence is required as this role will require cross campus travel and work at our three health campuses
