The Department

The Capital Program has responsibility for the planning and delivery of all Capital Projects across Alfred Health.

The Role

The position of Project Manager is responsible for the delivery of assigned projects, ensuring that these projects are completed on time, within budget and contractual conditions.

This involves the management of multiple consultants and builders, with a strong focus on ensuring all projects meet performance, quality, safety and environmental objectives. 

This position requires a high level of written and oral communication, liaison, negotiation and organisational skills together with a strong commercial acumen. 

The position is based at the Alfred Hospital, Prahran but will cover all Alfred Health properties including Caulfield and Sandringham Hospitals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop strong stakeholder relationships to fully identify and confirm the scope of projects and maintain continued stakeholder commitment and confidence throughout the project lifecycle through regular and effective communication.
  • Manage project risk, including operational, financial, contractual and OHS risks.
  • Procure consultants and builders for allocated projects using Alfred Health standard procurement and contract processes.
  • Manage all phases of projects including feasibility, concept, design, construction and commissioning.
  • Manage the project budget using Alfred standard processes, forecast, monitor, control and report on project costings throughout the life of the project.  Upon completion of projects, analyse and report on actual costs against approved costs to ensure there is no over-expenditure in project costs. 
  • Through appointed consultants and builders ensure projects are managed according to agreed budget and program parameters.
  • Manage the hospital interface with appointed consultants and builders, ensuring the impact of construction projects on the hospital’s operations are minimised.
  • Liaise with Alfred Health’s internal service providers which include Infection Control, OHS, IT&C and Engineering, to ensure all compliance and protocol requirements are signed off.
  • Coordinate hospital related commissioning activities including operational commissioning activities, and the building inspection and handover process for allocated capital and infrastructure projects.
  • Ensure that all capital projects conform to Alfred Health’s project management process, governance and procurement guidelines.
  • Complete regular reporting in line with Alfred standard processes.
  • Understanding of Government capital works operating environment

Qualification & Experience Required

  • ​​​​​​​Degree in Project Management, Architecture, Engineering, Building Construction or other appropriate tertiary qualifications.
  • 3 years + relevant experience in delivering capital projects.
