About the team

The Alfred Health Cancer Program is responsible for the overall delivery of a comprehensive cancer service which involves a number of clinical areas and units including; Medical Oncology, Haematology, Bone Marrow Transplant, State-wide Haemophilia Service, Radiation Oncology, Palliative Care and the Victorian Melanoma Service. Alfred Health’s Haematology Oncology Centre (HOC) located at the Paula Fox Melanoma and Cancer Centre, is a fully integrated cancer service providing care for most adult cancers including solid tumours and blood cancers, as well as an apheresis and outpatient stem cell transplant service. The majority of these services will relocate to our new facility onsite at The Alfred, The Paula Fox Melanoma and Cancer Centre (PFMCC) mid 2024.

About the role

The Ward Clerk is an integral member of this team and is responsible for the coordination of communication, patient services and clerical functions within the Haematology Trials Team. The Ward Clerk is primarily responsible for coordinating treatment and medical appointments and scheduling for patients attending the Haematology Oncology Centre. As the first point of contact for many patients, visitors and staff, the Ward Clerk facilitates excellent customer service and is central to the efficient and effective running of the unit environment. This role will also include backfilling the HOC scheduler position when required.

Skills & Experience 

  • Demonstrated computer literacy including Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel and Email)
  • Demonstrated skills in the use of IT systems, preferably in a health care setting (i.e. iPM, EMR)
  • Demonstrated understanding of pre-admission, admission and discharge principles
  • Excellent time management
  • Customer service experience
