On 1 January 2026, Alfred Health will come together with Kooweerup Regional Health Service, Peninsula Health, Bass Coast Health and Gippsland Southern Health Service to create Bayside Health, a newly merged health service with more than 22,000 employees caring for a community of over 1.2 million Victorians. The new health service will provide people with the best possible care with services that support them throughout their lives. The merger will also strengthen our workforce, providing new training, education and career opportunities. Subject to final approval on 1 January 2026, all employees from the five health services will transfer to Bayside Health.

The Department
The Alfred Cancer Program is responsible for the overall delivery of a comprehensive cancer service which involves a number of clinical areas and units including Medical Oncology, Clinical Haematology, Bone Marrow Transplant, Apheresis, State-wide Haemophilia Service, Radiation Oncology, Palliative Care and the Victorian Melanoma Service. Alfred Health delivers a comprehensive suite of services which involves a range of diagnostic services, surgical, radiation and oncology therapies. This now includes the Integrative Oncology Unit and Wellness Centre, established in 2024 to provide evidence-based supportive care for cancer patients.

An exceptional opportunity exists for an experienced Art Therapist to join the Integrative Oncology Unit within the Alfred Cancer Program. Now in its second year of operation, the Integrative Oncology Unit is located within the Paula Fox Melanoma and Cancer Centre (PFMCC)—a purpose-built, multidisciplinary centre designed to provide world-class, patient-centred care. The outpatient unit delivers evidence-based therapies that sit alongside traditional oncology treatments, empowering patients and families to optimise health, wellbeing, and quality of life throughout their cancer journey.

The Role
We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Art Therapist to join the Integrative Oncology and Wellness Program at Alfred Cancer. This new position plays a key role in supporting the emotional, psychological, and social wellbeing of cancer outpatients through creative, trauma-informed, and person-centred therapeutic approaches.
Embedded within the holistic mind–body pillar of the program, this outpatient role involves providing individual and group art therapy sessions that promote self-expression, emotional regulation, and quality of life during and beyond cancer treatment. Working collaboratively within a dynamic multidisciplinary team—including nursing, allied health, and complementary therapy professionals—you will contribute to an innovative, evidence-based model of supportive cancer care that integrates creative and integrative health interventions.
About You
You are a qualified and registered Art Therapist with a strong interest in integrative and supportive cancer care. You bring empathy, creativity, and clinical insight to your practice and are passionate about using art therapy to enhance wellbeing, resilience, and healing in people affected by cancer.
You thrive in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment and are eager to contribute to new models of care, including social and nature prescribing initiatives that promote self-care and holistic health outcomes. You are confident working both independently and as part of a team and are committed to professional growth, research, and quality improvement.
Qualifications and Experience Required
- Completion of a tertiary qualification (Master of Art Therapy degree or equivalent)
- Professional registration with the Australian, New Zealand and Asian Creative Arts Therapies Association (ANZACATA)
- Minimum of two years art therapy clinical experience in a relevant healthcare setting
- Experience working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team (MDT) to deliver holistic, person-centred care
- Demonstrated experience delivering individual and group art therapy
- High-level communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and engage sensitively with patients and families
- Demonstrated organisational, time management, planning and priority setting skills
- Well-developed information technology skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
