The Department

The Emergency & Trauma Centre (E&TC) is a purpose-built modern facility and has been designed to manage in excess of 75,000 patients per annum. It has 82 treatment bays and is arbitrarily divided into 5 main clinical areas, including a 4 bed dedicated Behaviours of Concern secure unit. We treat patients who are suffering from serious illness or injury that could lead to severe complications if medical treatment is not received quickly. We strive to ensure all patients receive timely, high-quality care and receive prompt, upfront assessment by the most senior doctor available to minimise the time spent waiting.  

The Role

The E&TC Clerical Team Lead is a member of the Alfred Health Emergency (AHE) Leadership Team who assists the Nurse Manager – Workforce and Operations in the leadership, development and management the E&TC Ward Clerk Team. The role also provides clerical support to medical and nursing staff and response to patient enquiries within the E&TC and in Virtual Care. 
Promoting and displaying excellent customer relations with patients, visitors and other hospital staff is essential. Reporting to the Nurse Manager, Emergency & Trauma Centre the E&TC Clerical Team Lead will be responsible for management of the Emergency and Virtual Care Clerical Teams, managing risk in the administration space and the implementation and improvement of informatics systems and processes. 
The Team Leader will supervise and provide effective guidance to the Clerical team and will be responsible for managing daily task allocation, ensuring smooth operations and effective communications between staff, clinicians, patients and their families. 
Qualifications and Experience Required

  • Tertiary qualifications in a related field and/or relevant industry experience with a minimum 2-3 years’ experience 
  • Understanding of medical terminology 
  • Previous supervisory experience 
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency including MS Word, MS Outlook, MS Excel (foundational) knowledge and experience with Alfred Health IT packages including Cerner and iPM 
  • Understanding and experience managing telephone and email enquiries in a health setting 
  • Demonstrated ability to plan work flow, prioritise and delegate to meet deadlines 
  • Understanding of confidentiality and privacy legislation
