The Department
Nursing Workforce provides support across Alfred Health through Bank and Pool cover. Our team comprises people who are able to work across a variety of specialities and adapt to new ward environments every day. The Position Summary
RUSONs are provided with a great start to their career by gaining experience in the hospital setting whilst completing their pre-registration nursing studies. The Start with Us program was conceptualised as an entry pathway for pre-registration nursing students to begin their nursing career with Alfred Health prior to their graduate year. By offering contracted RUSON positions, the organisation aims to meet the needs of a challenged nursing workforce and engage future staff in roles that complement pre-registration fellowships, and pre-registration placements.
The role of the RUSON is to support the nursing team in delivering safe and quality patient-centred care. The RUSON is required to work under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse at all times, within their level of education and assessed competencies and under clearly defined role parameters. The main objectives of this role are:
- To participate in delegated care delivery relating to patient activities of daily living, ensuring that the personal needs and comfort of patients are maintained
- To assist in providing a safe patient environment and additional supervision ensuring patient safety is maintained
- To provide general support to the Wards/Units, ensuring effective and efficient care delivery
- A unique experience of working across a wide range of general and speciality areas
- RUSONs will be allocated to either Alfred, Caulfield or Sandringham sites
Skills and Qualifications Required
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate Bachelor of Nursing Degree or Master of Nursing Degree and has successfully completed at least 12 months of a Bachelor of Nursing degree
