The Department

Myeloma Research Group (MRG)
MRG within the Division of Blood Cancers, Australian Centre for Blood Diseases is a combined translational and clinical research team focusing on the identification and characterisation of novel therapeutic agents, for multiple myeloma (MM). We also attempt to develop strategies to overcome drug resistance mechanisms and initiate development and implementation of correlative laboratory studies undertaken in parallel with institutional and multi-centre clinical trials.
MRG maintains close links with the Clinical Trial Unit which conducts a large number of clinical trials for diverse blood cancers and runs Investigator-initiated studies as well as sponsored trials.

The Role

This position works under a general supervisor and will involve processing of patient blood and human bone marrow biopsy samples and assisting with the general maintenance of the laboratory which includes preparation of commonly used solutions or buffers in the laboratory plus performing a range of biological research related activities whilst aiding academic staff, technical assistants and students. The Laboratory Assistant will be responsible for setting up equipment and responsible for a wide range of administrative support functions in the laboratory such as maintenance of information systems, databases, lab supplies and departmental equipment.
