Information for Australian trained JMS eligible to enter advanced physician training in August 2024

Alfred Health is a leader in health care delivery, improvement, research and education. We are the main provider of health services to people living in the inner southeast suburbs of Melbourne, from ambulatory, to inpatient and home and community-based services.

Alfred Health is a part of the South East Collaboration for General and Acute Care Medicine Advanced Physician Training and successful application for the August 2024 vacancies at Alfred Health provide registrars with a position in the SE Collaboration.

The South East Collaborative is a regional network of health services that acts as a singular conjoint recruiting body for NEW trainees entering into GACM advanced training.  The GACM SE Collaborative comprises Alfred Health, Monash Health, Eastern Health, Peninsula Health and other hospitals affiliated with these health services. Candidates who are successfully recruited to the SE Collaborative (as an employee at one of the aforementioned health services) can expect to have a 36-month training program that gives you access to a variety of rotations in accredited roles across the collaborative with the core aim of delivering a diverse and balanced mix of learning experience that sets up your consultant career and fulfils RACP AT requirements.

Other benefits of applying to work in the SE Collaborative include guaranteed exposure to multiple future employers before you become a consultant physician, opportunity to access a broad range of educational resources across myriad health services from beginning to end, a wide selection of training rotations to match your career interests, and seamless transition from one registrar year to the next.

South East Collaboration rotation vacancies for applicants seeking to commence GACM APT in August 2024 are:

  • Mildura Cardiology: accredited for CORE Specialty training in GACM.
  • Alfred Health General Medicine Acute Streaming Team (GMAST): accredited as CORE General Medicine-related rotation.
  • Alfred Health General Medicine Hospital in the Home and Hospital admission reduction program (HARP): accredited as CORE General Medicine-related rotation.

There is a possibility that a rotation into Geriatrics at Alfred Health may become available from August 2024 as well as other options.  Applicants will be updated on rotation availability as this information is provided by the health services within the South East Collaboration.

All rotations meet the CORE training requirements of the RACP PREP Advanced Training curriculum in General and Acute Care Medicine.

Trainees participate in a professional development program to enhance skills in clinical leadership and this supports practice across all the roles in the program and particularly in the night clinical lead role.

Senior clinicians with a range of backgrounds, clinical practice and non-clinical interests provide supervision and mentoring.

Flexible Training

Flexible and part-time training opportunities are available in our program and the collaborative as a whole.  We have a range of roster structures for part-time training that we can discuss with successful applicants.  Please indicate your interest in part-time training in your application cover letter.
