Alfred Health

Alfred Health is a leader in health care delivery, improvement, research and education. We are the main provider of health services to people living in the inner southeast suburbs of Melbourne, from ambulatory to inpatient and home and community-based services.

Alfred Psychiatry is seeking hospital medical officers (HMOs) who will be post-graduate year 2 or beyond in 2023, and who are interested in broadening their experience and knowledge of psychiatry.

HMOs working with Alfred Psychiatry will enjoy working in a service which greatly values junior medical staff wellbeing and has a strong focus on supporting our junior doctors. A diverse range of clinical placements within a recovery-focused service with a strong emphasis on collaborative care and proactive engagement of families and carers, supported by experienced supervisors, ensures Alfred Health doctors are able to optimise their learning opportunities and a structured teaching programme, including formal weekly tutorials and clinical interview tutorials are available to all HMOs.

Generic junior psychiatry doctor roles include roles in the adult inpatient service and the community mental health clinics.

The Alfred has, and will continue to support HMOs seeking to apply for RANZCP registrar positions. Working in psychiatry bolsters one's chances of securing a registrar spot.

Alfred Psychiatry values an active and engaged psychiatry registrar body with the present group of 50 registrars engaged in fellowship training, including those training in a number of subspecialty certificates in adult psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry, consultation and liaison psychiatry, aged psychiatry, addiction psychiatry and generalist psychiatry. HMOs can expect to be well supported by this large, enthusiastic and dynamic group of trainees.

Substantive HMOs and registrars at The Alfred have access to a peer support program which includes regular meetings with senior psychiatry registrars and monthly meetings with a focus on trainee wellbeing which includes all of the junior psychiatry medical staff.

Psychiatry HMO’s will have rotations in Psychiatry Inpatient Unit and Adult Community Clinics.

For further enquiries please contact Dr Leo Chen (Director Psychiatry Registrar Training and Workforce) at Leo.Chen@alfred.org.au or Laurina Van Tilburg (Junior Medical Workforce training Coordinator) at L.VanTilburg@alfred.org.au
