The Role

The Management Accountant provides a range of financial management services including budgeting, planning, forecasting and reporting within the sub faculty of Translational Medicine and Public Health. Operating within the University’s financial standards and policies, the incumbent assists departments to achieve their business objectives through the provision of tailored, business focussed financial services. The role further details down in providing financial management and operational support to business units within Monash Program under the Sub-Faculty. The incumbent partners with Alfred Health finance and payroll staff to provide business finance partnering to portfolio’s on range of enquiries including Monash Program salaries and FTE matters. In consultation with the Finance Manager and the Sub-Faculty, Senior Finance Manager, the incumbent provides payroll reconciliation, review contracts for FTE arrangements and assists in preparation of the external audit on research grants.


The incumbent should possess:

  • A degree in a finance field or other relevant field and subsequent relevant experience in the delivery of financial management services, or
  • An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training
  • Demonstrated understanding and expertise in financial management including the development and monitoring of budgets, knowledge of operational standards and relevant legislative regulations and obligations
  • Highly developed analytical skills and experience in data collection and analysis
  • Sound written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear and succinct correspondence, documents and finance reports
  • Proficiency in using financial accounting software, the Microsoft Office suite of applications, web technology and experience in the use of computer-based records systems/databases
  • High level organisational skills, including the ability to set priorities, manage time, plan to meet deadlines and work effectively under pressure
  • Experience in working in a finance role in a large, complex environment
  • Ability to liaise with and develop and sustain effective working relationships with a diversity of colleagues, including finance and non-finance staff
