The Department

This position is based within Alfred Health Support Services, supporting Food Services on all campuses. 
Food Service is provided throughout Alfred Health to inpatients, patients in day procedure and other specialist areas on a seven-day basis. The objective of the service is to support patient meal choice by offering nutritious and appealing food, suited to patient’s dietary and cultural needs. The service has a priority to provide quality care that enhances patient satisfaction and their meal time experience, supporting positive patient outcomes.
Hospital Food services are a key point of customer service and have the capacity to influence patients’ perception of their hospital experience and enhance their satisfaction. There is a diversity of food service models in place; at The Alfred menu is provided under cook fresh service, while at Caulfield and Sandringham, food is provided under a cook-chill model with some limited short order items.

The Role

This role will support the Senior Food Service Dietitian and Food Service Managers in the provision of safe and suitable patient meals across the health service and will play a key role in strengthening the interface between nutrition and food services. This will involve contributing to the review of the hospital menu and associated food services systems, process and product reviews, coordinating and supervising food service quality projects and audits, supervising student projects, and training relevant staff.

The role is supported by the Senior Food Service Dietitian role, who will oversee the critical data maintenance for the electronic menu management system (EMMS), and will support system optimisation and clinical governance.

Experience and Qualifications Required

  • Possess qualifications providing eligibility for full membership of Dietitians Australia (DA). 
  • Preferably holds current Accredited Practicing Dietitian status.
  • Minimum of three years clinical experience in major teaching hospital
  • Broad knowledge of clinical food service application and therapeutic diets
  • Experience in computerised Menu Management and Nutritional Analysis Systems
  • Experience in clinical food service management with current knowledge of food safety practices, standards and requirements of a tertiary organisation with high risk patients
  • Strong time management skills and high degree of flexibility
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience in quality improvement activities
  • Current driver’s licence
