The Department

The AMAH Adult Inpatient Unit (IPU) at The Alfred is dedicated to delivering high quality and innovative acute adult public mental health services in Victoria. Our clinical program is implemented across two wards, the Ground Floor and First Floor. Each ward includes a High Dependency Unit (HDU) and Low Dependency Unit (LDU).

The Role

This role has a dual focus, primarily responsible for developing and providing clinical interventions and leadership in the HDU environment across both the Ground Floor and First Floor wards. The model of care for the IPU recognised the importance of providing a therapeutic program which allows for consumers to engage in group and individual programs within the HDU environment. This will include a range of engagement activities, sensory modulation and engaging with consumers on an individual level to provide consumers therapeutic opportunities. Collaboration with the HDU Lead and the nursing team along with the allied health team and the wider multi-disciplinary team (MDT) is essential.
Additionally, this role will also include the ongoing coordination and advancement of the group work program, ensuring that we deliver a high-standard, evidence-based program. This will involve the upskilling and support of our multi-disciplinary team members who facilitate the group work program on a day-to-day basis.
This position is a Monday to Friday role. The service may request out of hours work under special circumstances.

Requirements for the role

Essential:

  • Bachelor of Applied Science (Occupational Therapy) or Bachelor of Social Worker or recognised equivalent.
  • Current registration as an Occupational Therapist with the Occupational therapy Board of Australia via AHPRA to practice with the National Board.

Desirable:

  • Relevant post graduate training or working towards in mental health
  • Previous leadership experience in a clinical/HDU environment
  • Group work program development, implementation, review and evaluation
