The Acute General Surgical Unit is a unit providing services across both Alfred and Sandringham, incorporating acute General Surgery at The Alfred and encompasses all general surgical work performed at the Sandringham Hospital.  Those patients who have complex conditions and who require a high level of care will be directed to the Alfred campus, whilst the Sandringham site is targeted for high volume, low complexity, short stay general surgery elective and emergency cases. All emergency general surgical patients will be referred to the Alfred and Sandringham hospital under the Acute General Surgical Unit.

Applications are invited for the position of Fellow to join the Acute General Surgery Unit (AGSU) at Alfred Health to start from February 2025. The Fellow will work across the unit, focussing particularly on the peri-operative and operative aspects of Acute General surgery including a weekly outpatient clinic, and 5 operating lists per week (largely emergency, some elective casemix at Sandringham Hospital). The fellow will also participate in the on-call roster for emergency surgery, facilitate completing of in-hours non-elective cases and also assess referrals.

Opportunities to participate in the development and implementation of Surgical Skills Education program and Education research. Interest and skills in this domain highly valued.

Applicants should hold, or expect to hold at the commencement of the fellowship, a FRACS or equivalent.  Must be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and eligible to work in Australia.
