The Department

Caulfield Pain Management and Research Centre (CPM&RC) is an ambulatory service providing specialist assessment and treatment for adults with chronic non-cancer related pain. The Centre aims to assist patients to reduce the impact of persistent pain by optimising pain treatments, improving function and promoting self-management. This is achieved by expert assessment and patient education There is a focus on the Cognitive Behavioural education and restoration of function for management of pain with a philosophy of teaching self-management strategies, and access to a number of treatment modalities including group and individual treatment programs. The centre undertakes research on outcomes of pain treatments, psychosocial aspects of chronic pain, pain and ageing and novel therapies for pain.

The Role

The Occupational Therapist will be responsible for the provision of comprehensive clinical Occupational Therapy assessment, treatment and education of patients with complex pain conditions, using Pain Neuroscience current knowledge and biopsychosocial models of care. They will manage a clinical caseload, working within a multi-disciplinary team comprising of doctors, psychologists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, nurses and other team members. They will participate in the initiation and implementation of quality and service initiatives within the clinic and have professional links with the Occupational Therapy department. They will be responsible for the development and implementation of quality and service improvement programs and education framework. They will be leaders in contributing to knowledge while managing a clinical caseload. They will balance their time taking a key role in education, research and quality improvement.

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Be registered with the OT Board of Australia and adhere to all AHAPRA and Board's registration standards
  • Completion of relevant post graduate Occupational Therapy courses
  • Relevant clinical and leadership experience
  • Experience in group work
  • Excellent supervisory and teaching skills
  • Evidence of previous involvement in the development, implementation and evaluation of Quality Improvement strategies
  • Be eligible for membership of OT Australia
  • Uphold the Code of Ethics of OT Australia (if a member)
