The National Trauma Research Institute With a mission to improve care of the injured, the National Trauma Research Institute (NTRI) was established in 2003 by partnership institutions Alfred Health and Monash University, Central Clinical School. The NTRI is located with the Alfred Medical Research and Education Precinct (AMREP) at The Alfred campus in Melbourne, Australia and supports the Alfred Trauma Services clinical unit’s education and research activities. The Alfred Trauma Service is the largest and most active Trauma Service in Australasia. The NTRI & Trauma Service works with organisations nationally and internationally to prevent and reduce the impact of severe injury by integrating research, education, medical technology and trauma system development to improve clinical care and outcomes. In early 2016, the NTRI’s activities were linked with those of The Alfred Trauma Service to integrate research with patient outcomes and to improve efficiency. One of the ways we achieve this is through the Alfred Hospital Trauma Registry. The NTRI is also the coordinating entity for the Australian New Zealand Trauma Registry


 A Postdoctoral Researcher position opportunity at the NTRI, a business unit of Alfred Health and Monash University, is open to early career researchers who are looking for dynamic and rewarding work environment. You will be responsible for multi-functional support of research activities across the NTRI, Trauma Service and Monash University, working closely with the Research Manager and other leading researchers in their respective field. Part of your work will also entail working with the Director of Trauma and NTRI on the recently granted NHMRC Investigator Grant titled “Reducing Resuscitation Errors”. This project will research and develop a computer assisted, resuscitation decision support system to include cardiac, stroke, sepsis, paediatric, toxidrome and obstetric emergencies and ascertain the effectiveness in these domains as well. Currently, the Alfred Hospital Trauma bays are equipped with the Trauma Reception and Resuscitation (TRR©) system for the management of major trauma patients.



  • A doctorate (or will shortly satisfy the requirements of a PhD) in a relevant discipline are, such as Health Sciences, Surgery, Critical Care or Biomedical Engineering or Software Engineering with digital health/medical sciences background.


  • Previous research experience at Monash University and/or Alfred Health.
