Alfred Mental and Addiction Health (AMAH) is responsible for the operation of services which focus on people with a severe mental illness residing in the Inner South Eastern area of Melbourne.
Mental and Addiction Health deliversa range of psychiatricservices: Adult: comprises an inpatient unit (IPU), including a Statewidepsychiatricintensivecare service (APICSS),and a consultation-liaison service at the Alfred Hospital; a sub-acute Prevention & RecoveryCareUnit (PARC) in SouthYarra;andcontinuingcare,rehabilitation,crisisassessment, homeless, and mobile support & treatmentservices in locations inPrahran(TheAlfred),and St. Kilda (St Kilda Road Clinic & Alma Road CCU).Thereisstrong postgraduate & undergraduate teaching coordinated by the expanding Alfred Addiction and Mental Health ResearchCentreandstrong links with the Caulfield Aged PsychiatryService
Consumer consultant position sits within the Quality, Improvement and Safety team. The position will collaborate with the Carer Consultants and Peer Workforce team.
The position is important in continuing to strengthen consumer participation in an expanding environment of consumer leadership and input across AMAH. Following on from the 2020 Mental Health Royal Commission this position will be involved in the development and leadership work across the service occurring to undertake the recommendations
Applications from persons with a lived experience of mental illness or carers of people with a mental illness would be highly desirable.
Demonstrated understanding of the principles of peer support and the ability to utilise own experience constructively for the benefit (in the support) of others.
While not mandatory, a relevant qualification would be well regarded.
Experience in the development of consumer advisories would be highly desirable.
Ability to work flexibly, organize work load and manage time effectively
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
Knowledge of requirements related to confidentiality and privacy within health services.
An understanding of the diversity of the cultural and linguistic backgrounds of our community and the impact this has on consumer and carer experiences of mental illness.
Competency in the use of Microsoft software including: word, excel, access and publisher
Ability to support orientation programs for consumers and staff and to contribute to staff training and education.
Experience working in a Consumer Peer Support role.
Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or Intentional Peer Support Training.
