The Department
Monash School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine is a teaching and research unit of the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences and is centred at the Alfred Hospital Campus. It plays a prominent role in public health medicine and works closely with the major Monash affiliated hospitals, research institutes and public health units within Victoria. It plays a prominent role in public health medicine in Australia and has a strong record for training individuals with the capacity and skills to assume leadership roles in Australia in this field. Our skills provide a key resource underpinning translational research within our faculty.

The Role
As the STAREE trial has progressed a new role for a full-time Data Manager has become available at the Alfred Health site. The role will be supporting the STAREE ( trial, a double-blind, randomised primary prevention trial investigating whether daily active treatment of Atorvastatin versus placebo will enhance disability-free survival (death, dementia and disability) and prevent major cardiovascular outcomes in healthy participants aged 70 years and over.  The trial is primarily funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council of Australia.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the collection, storage and timely availability of high quality clinical trial data that meet project needs and regulatory and quality standards and provides technical support to the Principal Investigator, Project Managers and other STAREE staff. The appointee will also be responsible for internal data reporting and assist with database design and development (when required). 

This is a unique opportunity to be involved in the leadership team in this world-first trial. The candidate will perform a range of complex research-related activities that play a critical role in supporting the delivery of Clinical Trial research project outcomes.  This includes high-level computing, administrative, analysis and operational activities.  The incumbent is a subject matter expert and provides strategic and operational advice to senior academic and professional staff. In addition, this position has considerable interaction with internal and external university collaborators, including liaising directly with and updating Clinical Trial Steering Committees, communicating with divisional Senior Management and Operations Committees. The role will provide leadership in data quality and management and provides significant input into problem-solving processes and implementing solutions.
