Medical Oncology Department
The Medical Oncology Unit provides co-ordinated multidisciplinary management for adult patients with malignancies. An important component of this care are the Clinical Trial/Research activities we participate in, which enable us to offer forthcoming and novel investigational treatments to our patients.
Alfred Cancer Trials (ACT) conducts phase I, II and III trials, and is a participating member of both National and International Clinical Trials Groups, incorporating both pharmaceutical industry sponsored and investigator driven studies across a wide range of tumour types.
Due to an internal promotion, this position is an opportunity for an outstanding candidate to join Alfred Cancer Trials as a Research nurse. The successful candidate will be an experienced oncology/haematology Registered Nurse or experienced clinical trial nurse who is looking for an opportunity to further develop their knowledge and skills in Cancer clinical trials as a Research Nurse. They will work closely with their team leader and colleagues to deliver world class care through the management of current and future clinical trials. The candidate will:
Have responsibility for the co-ordination and management of multiple clinical studies including:
the trial related care of patients,
the collection, processing and transport of trial pathology samples
management of the collection of related clinical trial data
management of clinical trial regulatory processes
Ensure all clinical trials are performed in accordance with the study protocol and in line with the regulatory, ethical and legal requirements outlined by the ICH-GCP, TGA, Note for Guidance on Good Clinical Practice (CPMP/ICH/135/95), the NHMRC National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research, and the applicable state/federal privacy laws and institutional policies.
Contribute to strategies to improve performance aligned with international best practice standards and departments expectations, in conjunction with the team leader and research manager
Current nursing registration with APHRA
Degree qualified in nursing with evidence of further education including post graduate certification/diploma/Masters and continuous professional development in a relevant area of practice
Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Understanding of GCP principles
Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated excellent organizational, problem solving skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize work
Demonstrated capacity to accurately manage multiple research projects and scientific protocols concurrently
Ability to complete tasks efficiently and deliver outcomes as required, with accuracy and attention to detail
Valid Australian working rights
An understanding of oncology patient management
Understanding of principles of immunotherapy and chemotherapy
Previous clinical trial experience
