The Oesophago-Gastric Bariatric (OGB) and General Surgery unit is a specialist unit at the Alfred hospital with particular interests in Upper Gastrointestinal (benign and malignant) and Bariatric surgery as well as acute general and trauma surgery. The unit consists of five active clinical surgeons, who in addition are committed to teaching and research.

This 2021 full-time fellowship position offers an outstanding opportunity for training in Upper Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgery as well as trauma and acute general surgery.  The OGB fellow will work across the unit, focussing particularly on the peri-operative and operative aspects of Upper Gastrointestinal and Bariatric surgery including a weekly outpatient clinic and MDT, 6-7 elective operating lists per week and a fortnightly endoscopy list. The fellow will also participate in the on-call roster for emergency surgery, facilitate completing of in-hours non-elective cases and also assess Upper Gastrointestinal and Bariatric referrals. The unit has a major research interest and runs multiple prospective data bases as well as having strong links to the national bariatric surgery registry.  Research and data management qualifications are preferred.

The successful applicant will be responsible to the Director of the Oesophago-Gastric Bariatric and General Surgery Unit, Professor Wendy Brown, Email: Wendy.Brown@monash.edu.

Applicants should hold, or expect to hold at the commencement of the fellowship, a FRACS or equivalent.  Must be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and eligible to work in Australia.

Candidates are advised that applications are reviewed as they are received and the department and hospital may finalise an appointment prior to the closing if appropriate, therefore, please lodge your application as soon as possible. '
