Alfred Health is a leader in health care delivery, improvement, research and education. We are the main provider of health services to people living in the inner southeast suburbs of Melbourne, from ambulatory, to inpatient and home and community based services.

Alfred Mental and Addiction health (AMAH) is responsible for the operation of services which focus on people with a severe mental illness residing in the Inner South Eastern area of Melbourne. POSITION:
The Carer Consultant will promote service responsiveness to the needs of families and carers. The position will work in collaboration with other local support groups to facilitate service improvement and support individual advocacy. In the event of identifying or receiving complaints, the
Carer Consultant will ensure appropriate processes are referred to, and implemented to manage these concerns.
The carer consultant will facilitate education and information on carer experiences, needs and support to Alfred Psychiatry staff, community groups and other relevant service providers working closely with the Alfred Psychiatry Workforce Development team.
The Carer Consultant will also manage the administration of the Mental Health Carer Support Fund which provides practical support to families and carers experiencing financial strain and/or crisis. The role will ensure monthly application review meetings are coordinated and funding is appropriately allocated according to program guidelines.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Awareness of current issues in mental health.
Demonstrated experience of working from a carer perspective with the ability to understand the needs of carers, consumers, clinicians and the service as it relates to the carer. Experience working in a Carer Consultant or Carer Peer Support role within a Mental Health Service would be highly regarded.
Current Driver’s License.
Sound skills in the use of computer software packages including: word, excel, access and publisher.
