A unique opportunity to work in HIV cure research
The Alfred’s Department of Infectious Diseases Clinical Research Unit is one of the largest of its kind in Australia and conducts research in the field of HIV, other infectious diseases and has a strong focus on HIV cure related research. The Unit has led clinical trials examining how medications can reverse HIV from its latent state and is focused on strategies to activate HIV from latency in the setting of antiretroviral therapy. Approaches to assess the extent and distribution of persistent HIV and to manipulate the immune system to control HIV without the need for antiretroviral therapy are also being assessed. The success of the department in HIV Cure research is underpinned by our close collaboration and partnership with The Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity.
To build on these successes, the fellow will work with researchers at the Alfred and partners across Melbourne to build scale in world‐leading HIV Cure research and training conduct early stage clinical trials and strengthen partnerships between HIV Cure researchers, clinicians and the community.
Applications are encouraged from suitably qualified medical officers with prior training in Infectious Diseases and who have passed their FRACP examinations.
Experience in HIV care, will be highly regarded as this position will work on HIV cure clinical research. Current clinical trials that are a focus of HIV cure research at the Alfred include the development of novel methods to image persistent HIV in people receiving antiretroviral therapy. Applicants who do not currently hold a PhD would be encouraged to enroll with projects conducted in this position wholly or partially contributing towards completion of a PhD.
