Alfred Health is a leader in health care delivery, improvement, research and education. We are the main provider of health services to people living in the inner southeast suburbs of Melbourne, from ambulatory, to inpatient and home and community based services.
The Emergency & Trauma Centre (E&TC) is a purpose-built modern facility and has been designed to manage in excess of 65,000 patients per annum. It has 74 treatment bays and is arbitrarily divided into 5 main clinical areas, including 12 Fast Track treatment spaces. We manage patients who are suffering from serious illness or injury that could lead to severe complications if medical treatment is not received quickly. We strive to ensure all patients receive timely, high-quality care and receive prompt, upfront assessment by the most senior doctor available to minimise the time spent waiting.
The Alfred Hospital is a major adult tertiary referral hospital and is well known as one of Australasia’s busiest Trauma Centre. On addition it is home to many Victorian statewide services, including the Victorian Adult Burns Unit, Heart and Lung Transplant, HIV Medicine, Cystic Fibrois, Hyperbaric Medicine, Clinical Haematology, Haemophilia and Malignant Adult Haematology.
A Nurse Practitioner Candidate is a registered nurse who has acquired the expert knowledge base, complex decision making skills and clinical competencies to prepare for expanded practice. The Nurse Practitioner Candidate is an integral member of the health care team who is working towards an increased level of professional autonomy in collaboration with other health professionals to assess and manage clients within their clinical context using nursing knowledge and skills. The Nurse Practitioner Candidate is engaging in clinical education, mentorship and professional activities to assist the development of extensions to practice including prescription of medications and at least one of the following; ordering diagnostic investigations, direct referral to other health care professionals, the ability to admit and discharge patients and/or provision of absence from work certificates, within the limitations of their registration as a Registered Nurse.
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse with Nursing and Midwifery board of Australia via AHPRA.
- Completion or working towards a Masters of Nurse Practitioner (or a Masters granted equivalence of qualification by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency)
- Completion or working towards an approved Therapeutic Medication Management module
- Significant years’ experience post specialist qualification, and evidence of working at a level of advanced practice in the clinical area
We offer a comprehensive orientation and preceptor program and regular in - house education programs. The department has Clinical Educators available 7 days a week.
