Alfred Health is a leader in health care delivery, improvement, research and education. We are the main provider of health services to people living in the inner southeast suburbs of Melbourne, from ambulatory to inpatient and home and community-based services. On 1 January 2026, Alfred Health will come together with Kooweerup Regional Health Service, Peninsula Health, Bass Coast Health and Gippsland Southern Health Service to create Bayside Health, a newly merged health service with more than 22,000 employees caring for a community of over 1.2 million Victorians. The new health service will provide people with the best possible care with services that support them throughout their lives. The merger will also strengthen our workforce, providing new training, education and career opportunities. Subject to final approval on 1 January 2026, all employees from the five health services will transfer to Bayside Health.

Department
The Safety & Wellbeing team provides leadership, strategic guidance, systems, risk reporting/monitoring and expert advice in key areas such as OHS management systems, occupational violence, manual handling and ergonomics, workplace injury prevention and management, emergency preparedness and wellbeing initiatives.
Position
The OVA Advisor will provide subject matter expertise and drive innovation and organisational capability for the management of occupational violence and aggression. The fundamental objective of this role is to reduce harm associated with Occupational Violence and Aggression. The OVA Advisor will lead change, provide strategic
planning, training and coordinate intervention delivery and continuous improvement across the Alfred Health workforce. The role partners with clinical and operational leaders to embed proactive, person-centred, trauma-informed strategies and ensures employees are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to manage aggression safely
The OVA Advisor coordinates the development and monitoring of the Alfred Health OVA strategy and action plan in collaboration with the Alfred Health Prevention of OVA Committee, leadership, employees and their representatives.
Experience and Qualifications Required
- Registered Health Professional (e.g., Registered Nurse, Mental Health Nurse, or Clinical Psychologist)
- Significant experience in responding to aggressive or violent incidents in a healthcare or mental health setting
- Strong leadership and decision-making skills under pressure
- Demonstrated ability to de-escalate challenging behaviours using trauma-informed, person-centred approaches
- Experience in delivering training or coaching in de-escalation, aggression prevention or OVA-related content
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative approach to team and stakeholder engagement
- High level of organisational, documentation, and reporting skills
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and frameworks (e.g., WorkSafe, Clinical Aggression Standards)
- Familiarity with RiskMan or similar incident reporting systems
- Qualification in conflict resolution, mental health, security operations or leadership
- Victorian Driver’s License
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Learning Management Systems (LMS) or similar training tools.
