About the Department

AMAH provides specialist psychiatric clinical care to people with severe mental illness.  The Program has a primary responsibility for residents of inner South-eastern metropolitan Melbourne but cares for all patients seeking its services. 

The Alfred Mental and Addiction Health Program (AMAH) comprises:

  • AMAH Hospital and Emergency Services (HES)
  • AMAH Adult Community and Older Adult Services (ACOAS)
  • AMAH Infant, Child & Youth Services including Headspace (HI-CYMHS)
  • AMAH Statewide Services

About the Role

Applications are invited for the position of Locum Specialist in Psychiatry (Fractional) at Alfred Health to work up to 38 hours per week providing parental leave backfill. This position will be providing cover in the Consultation-Liaison and Emergency Psychiatry department, with an emphasis on the Emergency Psychiatry Service (EPS) and Hope Team.

Qualifications and Skills Required

Our preferred candidate must possess the following experience and attributes:

  • Appointees must be legally qualified medical practitioners, registered or registrable with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) without conditions, undertakings or reprimands that could impact on their clinical practice
  • Must be eligible to bill Medicare for outpatient consults
  • Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP)
  • Demonstrable relevant knowledge and experience in Psychiatry
  • Meeting Alfred Health requirements for credentialing and scope of practice in Psychiatry
  • Outstanding communication skills, including well-developed conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to liaise well with other staff at all levels
  • Demonstrated flexibility in problem solving and the capability to develop and sustain highly collaborative relationships with others/ other teams.
