Subject to final approval on 1 January 2026, all employees from the five health services will transfer to Bayside Health.

About the Team

Alfred Pathology Service (APS) provides a comprehensive range of pathology testing, consultation services and collection services to clinicians and patients of Alfred Health. The Service has 5 units (Anatomical Pathology, Biochemistry, Haematology, Human Molecular and Microbiology). Alfred Health and Monash Health have established a formal partnership to deliver a Shared Pathology Service as one of three new pathology networks for metropolitan Melbourne.  All roles in the Pathology Programs are working to enhance and develop the Partnership across the Health Services to ensure we continue to provide high quality care for the patients across the health services.  

About the Role

  • Support the Supervisor in the day-to-day running of the CSP unit including the office staff, the pathology courier and the reception person at Sandringham.
  • Perform the day-to-day supervision of staff when Supervisor is absent for the day.
  • Assume responsibility for the unit when the Supervisor is absent
  • Participate in the training and supervision of staff.
  • Monitoring staff performance, giving advice and clarifying where appropriate.
  • Supporting the supervisor in Performance reviews.
  • Manage service requests and routine tasks in Kronos, Riskman, IQM, IT Service request portal and Engineering portal
  • Reviewing processes with the supervisor to create a culture of continuous improvement
  • Liaising with senior staff from other units to provide the most efficient service for the department.
  • Take initiative in dealing with difficult tasks and in problem-solving.
  • Participate in the on-call roster.

Skills and Experience

  • Flexibility to work across multiple sites and part of a 24/7 roster.
  • A proven record of reliability and punctual attendance in a teamwork environment.
  • Role model for respectful behaviour and safe work practices.
  • Written and verbal communication skills and the ability to provide direction to others.
  • Assist in the review and revision of procedural documentation with a focus on accuracy and competency.
  • Basic to intermediate computer and data entry skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting Pre-Analytical laboratory operations and patient facing administrative roles.
  • Experience with investigating and troubleshooting issues or guiding staff.
  • Experience with a Laboratory Information System such as Cerner PathNet (Highly Desirable).
