About the team

Alfred Mental & Addiction Health (AMAH) is responsible for the operation of services, which focus on people with a severe mental illness residing in the Inner South Eastern area of Melbourne.

Services are provided by a number of teams located at the Alfred Hospital (Commercial Road, Prahran) and at St. Kilda Road Clinic, Aged Psychiatry at Caulfield,  Alma Road Community Care Unit in St. Kilda and the Child & Adolescent Service located in Moorabbin. The single most important goal of AMAH  is to create an environment that facilitates clinical recovery, supports individual recovery efforts and strives to minimise service system barriers to the recovery process.

About the role

The position is based at Alma Road Community Care Unit (ARCC) St. Kilda.  ARCC operates 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. ARCC provides a graduated model of residential rehabilitation for people with  mental illness to be supported to transition to more independent  community options. 14 beds are provided on site at ARCC with further beds located in the community to support transition from the service. The model is underpinned by interdisciplinary care.

To be successful in this role, you  will have a sophisticated understanding of recovery and will apply the model in practice. Relevant knowledge and highly demonstrated skills in managing safety, mental state assessment, care planning and with capability to provide responsive direct care and evidence based interventions to support clients participating in the program to engage in self management are key requirements.  

The incumbent will also be responsible for ensuring evidenced based interventions  are undertaken to inform care planning and case review whilst providing case management for up to 4 individual clients. Shift Support and supervision to the  graduates and students are also required.

The position involves a rotating AM and PM shift roster with hours scheduled over 7 days per week.

Skills & Experience

  • Registration with the Occupational Therapy Board via APHRA, or eligibility for membership with AASW
  • A current driver’s licence is essential.
  • Demonstrable record of safe and appropriate clinical practice with sound risk and mental state assessment skills.
  • Comprehensive understanding of key aspects of Mental Health And WellBeing  Act (2023).
  • Experience of running groups
  • A high performance, team player who is customer focussed, motivated and enthusiastic
