Radiation Oncology Medical Physicist

  • Medical Physicist Grade 1 - 3  

  • Full time – 76 hours per fortnight  

  • Fixed Term – 12th June to 22nd September 2023

DEPARTMENT: 

The Alfred Health Radiation Oncology (AHRO) Department is a unit of a comprehensive cancer service provided by Alfred Health. The department is comprised of two centres, Alfred Radiation Oncology (ARO) located at The Alfred Hospital and the Gippsland Radiation Oncology (GRO) centre, located at Latrobe Regional Hospital.  Together the two centres provide the full range of radiation oncology with a full complement of "State of the Art" radiotherapy treatment, planning, and quality control equipment, including five Truebeam linear accelerators, equipped with AlignRT and ExacTrac. The service also operates a superficial radiation therapy unit, a HDR brachytherapy unit, along with Eclipse, iPlan, Variseed and Oncentra treatment planning systems. 

 

POSITION: 

This is a fixed term 15-week position and will primarily be based at the ARO Campus (Melbourne), but a 5-week period based at the GRO Campus (Gippsland) is also required. 

 

The position is suitable for a newly certified Radiation Oncology Medical Physicist or recent Medical Physics graduate/PhD student. 

The successful applicant may be required to take part in some shift work and to take on some on-call duties. 

 

Position classification will be based on candidate's qualifications and experience. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: 

Essential 

  • A postgraduate Degree in Physics or related field with some experience in Radiotherapy Physics.  

  • Eligibility for Ordinary Membership of the Australasian College of Physical Scientists and Engineers in Medicine (ACPSEM).  

 

Desirable 

  • A current Victorian driver’s license.    

  • Previous experience in a clinical environment 

  • Prior clinical experience in Medical Physics (preferably Radiotherapy Physics) 

  • Some working knowledge of specialised radiotherapy software (e.g. TPS, OIS) 

  • Certification in Radiation Oncology Medical Physics (ACPSEM, DABR, IMPCB, HCPC, ABMP, CCPM)
