DEPARTMENT

STAREE (www.staree.org.au) is a double-blind, randomised primary prevention trial investigating whether daily active treatment of Atorvastatin versus placebo will enhance disability-free survival (death, dementia and disability) and prevent major cardiovascular outcomes in healthy participants aged 70 years and over. The trial is primarily funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council of Australia. 

POSITION

An exciting opportunity for a Clinical Trial Officer to join the ‘STAtins in Reducing Events in the Elderly’ (STAREE) clinical trial located in Melbourne. The successful candidate will be responsible for approaching and liaising with GPs to join as a co-investigator in the study.

The main responsibility of the Clinical Trial Officer will be directly supporting the STAREE principal investigators and project manager in all aspects of conduct and implementation of a clinical trial. The Clinical Trial Officer will also liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including physicians and nursing staff at general practices and/or hospitals and trial participants. The incumbent will be responsible for a large region across Melbourne with some travel to regional Victoria when needed. Some overnight stays may be required.

ABOUT YOU

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of having the ability to solve problems by using innovation and exercising diagnostic skills within areas of functional responsibility or professional expertise, have the ability to prioritise tasks in a busy environment and a high level of written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team. You should enjoy travelling and be confident in approaching general practice clinics. A sales background would be advantageous.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

The appointee will also have:

  • A degree in a relevant area, from a recognised university with subsequent relevant work experience or extensive experience leading to the development of specialist expertise or an equivalent combination of experience and/or education;
  • High-level of written and verbal communication skills, experience in customer service and business ethics;
  • Computer literacy in databases, word processing and spreadsheets;
  • Sharp attention to detail and evidence of ability to adhere strictly to protocol and working guidelines;
  • Thorough understanding of human research ethics principles;
  • Ability to work fairly independently and as part of a team, along with a demonstrated capacity to work with others in the workplace in a collegiate manner;
  • Possession of a current Driver’s license.

Desirable:

  • Previous clinical trials research experience;
  • Specific clinical expertise in desired area of research;
  • Training or education in research related topics.
