Role

Alfred Health People and Culture team is responsible for the overall delivery of numerous people related services to one of Victoria’s largest public health employers operating across three sites; The Alfred, Caulfield and Sandringham. Our team is going through an exciting period of change with the recent alignment of our department with the patient experience team under the leadership of a Chief Experience Officer.

Within the directorship of Human Resources and Employee Experience sits an experience team of HR professionals that provide essential operational support to employees and managers under an experience based framework in Employee Relations, Recruitment, OH&S and HR Consultancy services.

Our small yet impactful employee relations team has a current 12 month fixed term parental leave backfill opportunity where you can expect no two days to be the same as you create and deliver positive working relationships between Alfred Health and its people.

 

The opportunity;

Based at the Alfred in Melbourne, you will be a trusted senior member within our HR team partnering with managers to resolve and prevent the further escalation of people disputes including formal complaints, EBA clause interpretation, performance improvement, consultation in workplace change and complex fitness to work matters.

In the role of ER Advisor, you will also be a mentor and escalation resource to our busy HRBP team for guidance on industrial matters including policy and legislation interpretation arising in the employment relationship under their case management portfolio. You can also expect to add value and contribute daily to Alfred Health’s relationship with VHIA as we have a busy year ahead ratifying, operationalising and maintaining a number of major enterprise agreements covering the working conditions of our employees.

As a team, we pride ourselves on being problem solvers and strategic thinkers as we promote early and quick intervention on issues by advocating people practices that are fair and transparent. When required, you will lead representation of Alfred Health in external tribunals such as the Fair Work Commission and the Equal Opportunity Commission.

 

About you;

To be a successful ER Advisor at Alfred Health, you’ll need to be a people focused operator who values the importance of teamwork and being accountable. Additionally, you are the kind of person who engages with stakeholders in a collaborative, fair and customer focused manner and you’d have proven pragmatic negotiation skills with a natural bias towards being consistent and upholding equity in the principles which guide your sound judgement in providing advice.

We’re excited to be open to review a wide range of applications and are particularly keen to welcome applicants who have a solid generalist background within a fast-paced, complex large employer (public or private) who are interested in a specialist career in industrial relations. Alternatively, you may be a season ER professional interested in jumping into the heavily unionised environment of public health.

Whatever your professional background and industry experience is to date, it will be essential that you have technical knowledge to support you in quickly operating at Alfred Health which would include formal qualifications in human resources, employment law or related disciplines, experience managing investigations, a sound knowledge of legislative frameworks applicable to employment arrangements and recent experience in maintaining respectful employer/union relationships.
