Alfred Psychiatry is responsible for the operation of services which focus on people with a severe mental illness residing in the Inner South Eastern area of Melbourne.
Services are provided by a number of teams located at the Alfred Hospital (Commercial Road, Prahran) and at St. Kilda Road Clinic, Waiora Clinic in Armadale, Alma Road CCU in St. Kilda, PARC in South Yarra and the Child & Youth Service located in Moorabbin and headspace sites at Elsternwick, Bentleigh, Dandenong, Frankston and Narre Warren. Aged Psychiatry is located at Caulfield campus of Alfred Health.
Alfred Psychiatry also works in partnership with relevant local non-government and social support agencies.
The single most important goal of Alfred Psychiatry is to create an environment that facilitates clinical recovery, supports individual recovery efforts and strives to minimise service system barriers to the recovery process.
The incumbent will be expected to provide a client centred music therapy program supervised by the Grade 2 music therapist that enhances the wellbeing and recovery of patients admitted to Baringa Aged Psychiatry and the Adult Acute in-patient units. Participation in the establishment of the therapeutic group program is a key role. Alfred Psychiatry has a multidisciplinary approach to care of individuals diagnosed with, or at risk of developing a serious mental illness. Music and art therapists in Alfred Psychiatry are well supported professionally with access to professional development, supervision and performance management structures. This position is 16 hours per fortnight with an expectation that programs will be provided at weekends as negotiated with the therapy team.
