The Department

The Alfred Cancer Program is responsible for the overall delivery of a comprehensive cancer service which involves a number of clinical areas and units including; Medical Oncology, Clinical Haematology, Bone Marrow Transplant, Apheresis, State-wide Haemophilia Service, Radiation Oncology, Clinical Trials, Palliative Care and the Victorian Melanoma Service. The Alfred Health Clinical Haematology service offers a multidisciplinary setting for the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of the entire range of haematological diseases.

The Role 

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced registered nurse with advanced skills who acts as a clinical resource, provides advice and support to patients and undertakes related projects and development activities to meet the clinical needs within non-malignant haematology. The Haemostasis Thrombosis (HT) Nurse Coordinator is an integral member of the Haemophilia and Haematology Service, who can practice autonomously but in collaboration with other health professionals to assess and manage a range of patients with non-malignant haematological conditions (e.g. ITP, AIHA, thrombosis).

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia via AHPRA 
  • Post graduate qualification in Oncology/Haematology nursing or equivalent
  • Minimum of five years clinical haematology experience, with experience in a senior nursing role
  • Evidence of a commitment to excellence in the care of haematology patients with demonstrated understanding of the care and management of patients with thrombosis in an inpatient and ambulatory setting 
  • Excellent organisation, time-management skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem solving ability
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a team member and autonomously to meet patient needs and the goals of the unit
  • Experience in nursing research and research skills
  • Advanced level computer skills
  • Possess sound analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Able to drive culture, encompassing a person-centred focus, adaptability, respecting diversity, innovative thinking, application of evidence into practice and self-management
