Alfred Health is a leader in health care delivery, improvement, research and education. We are the main provider of health services to people living in the inner southeast suburbs of Melbourne, from ambulatory to inpatient and home and community-based services. On 1 January 2026, Alfred Health will come together with Kooweerup Regional Health Service, Peninsula Health, Bass Coast Health and Gippsland Southern Health Service to create Bayside Health, a newly merged health service with more than 22,000 employees caring for a community of over 1.2 million Victorians. The new health service will provide people with the best possible care with services that support them throughout their lives. The merger will also strengthen our workforce, providing new training, education and career opportunities. Subject to final approval on 1 January 2026, all employees from the five health services will transfer to Bayside Health.
About the Department
Alfred Health provides a full range of inpatient and community based rehabilitation service and is a state-wide provider of rehabilitation for patients following acquired brain injury, spinal cord injury, multi-trauma and amputation. Our Rehabilitation teams play an important leadership role in the provision of services to patients living with disability, and oversee the delivery of care of Alfred Health rehabilitation registered NDIS service providers. The rehabilitation services provides care in a range of settings across the continuum of care and has a strong reputation in innovation and new models of person centred care
About the Role
Applications are invited for the position of Head of Rehabilitation Medicine to work full time at Alfred Health.
Qualifications and Skills Required
Our preferred candidate must possess the following experience and attributes:
- Appointees must be legally qualified medical practitioners, registered or registrable with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) without conditions, undertakings or reprimands that could impact on their clinical practice.
- Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
- Demonstrable relevant knowledge and experience in Rehabilitation Medicine.
- Meeting Alfred Health requirements for credentialing and scope of practice in Rehabilitation Medicine.
- Outstanding communication skills, including well-developed conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to liaise well with other staff at all levels.
- Demonstrated flexibility in problem solving and the capability to develop and sustain highly collaborative relationships with others/ other teams.
- Active participation in teaching and research
