Unique opportunity for an appropriately experienced Senior Physiotherapist to join our highly skilled Physiotherapy Department as part of our ED Allied Health Team

 

  • Permanent Position

  • Part-Time at 48 hours per fortnight, with regular weekend availability preferred

  • Grade 3 Physiotherapist Classification (VB7-VB9, VC1)

The Department

Alfred Health's Physiotherapy Department provides acute physiotherapy services to the patients of The Alfred and Sandringham Hospitals, and subacute physiotherapy services to Caulfield Hospital.

 

The acute physiotherapy service is organised into five functional streams: Intensive Care, Musculoskeletal, Respiratory, PAN (Progressive Illness, Aged Care and Neurosciences), and Sandringham. The first four streams are located at the Alfred Hospital, and the latter at Sandringham. The physiotherapy services provide acute clinical services and expertise in intensive care, cardiothoracic surgery, general surgery, orthopaedics, trauma, burns, lung transplant, cystic fibrosis, pulmonary rehab, neurology and neurosurgery, infectious diseases, haematology, oncology, general medicine, haemophilia and emergency. 

 

The physiotherapy service at Caulfield Hospital provides an extensive range of inpatient and ambulatory services in rehabilitation, aged and geriatric medicine and residential care services. Clinical services include expertise in neurology, non-traumatic spinal cord injury, orthopaedics, amputees, burns, complex regional pain, cardiac rehab, aged care, acquired brain injury (ABI), transitional care and aged psychiatry. The functional streams are organised into Neurological Rehab, Musculoskeletal Rehab, Health of the Older Person (HOP), and ABI.

 

The Alfred Health Physiotherapy Department has more than 100EFT and employs over 170 staff. The service has a proud history of clinical and academic excellence. It remains strongly committed to further pursuing excellence in Physiotherapy through clinical research. The department is a major partner in the Alfred Health Physiotherapy Clinical Schools for La Trobe and Monash Universities and in this role provides clinical placements for more than 50 undergraduate physiotherapy students each year. 

 

The Position Summary

The Senior Clinician Physiotherapist is responsible for the ongoing development and provision of physiotherapy and transdisciplinary allied health services to the Emergency Department, as a member of the ED Allied Health team in consultation with ED Allied Health Team Leader and stream leader at the level of a developing expert.  

The Senior Clinician Physiotherapist is also responsible for the education of physiotherapy students and the supervision and professional development of grade 2 and grade 1 staff assigned to their units. The position also has a key responsibility in overseeing, monitoring and developing the physiotherapy competency framework within the interdisciplinary model in the ED Allied Health service.  

The Senior Clinician Physiotherapist has an important role contributing to the development of individuals, the clinical team and the physiotherapy service through good leadership, teamwork and communication.  

 

The ideal candidate: 

  • Will have strong generalist skills, experience with vestibular clients highly valued

  • Will have clinical experience in emergency medicine

  • Will be capable of managing a complex and variable caseload, with great prioritisation skills

  • Will have excellent communication and collaboration skills 

 

Skills and Qualifications Required 

  • Registered as a Physiotherapist with the relevant professional body via AHPRA 

  • Demonstrated ability to plan and manage a complex caseload, including in collaboration with other multidisciplinary team members

  • Demonstrated communication skills and time management skills
