Bayside Health

The Department

Data and Analytical Services (DAS) provide specialised data management, analysis and reporting services to Alfred Health in addition to providing application support for key corporate applications in the finance team.

The Role

This represents an exciting opportunity for a skilled data engineer to contribute by designing, building, and maintaining reliable data pipelines that enable analytics, research, and operational reporting across Alfred Health. This role ensures data flows efficiently and accurately from source systems into the organisation's data warehouse and cloud platforms, supporting both real-time and batch processing requirements.

Working within a multidisciplinary team, the position delivers fit-for-purpose data models that serve clinical registries, researchers, business intelligence teams, and emerging AI/ML initiatives. The role balances hands-on technical delivery with a commitment to data quality, security, and continuous improvement.

Skills 

Technical Skills

  • Strong proficiency in writing SQL and query optimisation
  • Functional understanding in database administration
  • Experience with data warehousing concepts, dimensional modelling (e.g. Kimball methodology), and ETL/ELT patterns
  • Working knowledge of SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and Analysis Services (SSAS)
  • Experience with cloud data platforms, preferably Microsoft Azure (Databricks)
  • Familiarity with modern data transformation tools such as DBT
  • Programming experience in Python and/or R for data processing and automation
  • Understanding of version control (Git) and CI/CD principles for data pipelines
  • Awareness of data quality frameworks, observability, and pipeline testing practices
