Department Summary

Alfred Health has entered an exciting era with the implementation of 3M 360 Encompass System to integrate and automate clinical documentation integrity (CDI), medical records clinical coding and performance monitoring across all Alfred Health facilities. This advanced technology will enable Alfred Health to improve, query and monitor documentation for optimal coded data, increasing coding productivity, appropriate DRG capture and reimbursement, and actionable data to support the improvement of patient outcomes.

The Role 

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Health Information Manager (HIM) to join our Coding & Casemix Services Team as our Operations Lead. The HIM – Operations Lead is responsible for:

  • Coordination and management of the day to day operations of the coding portfolio within the Coding & Casemix Services
  • Assess and determine resources required to support clinical coding operations to meet internal and external KPIs/targets
  • Staff management of Health Information Managers (HIMs)/Clinical Coders including rosters, leave and recruitment
  • Monitor and manage individual coder performance
  • Continuously review system, process efficiency and improvement opportunities

Experience and Qualifications Required

Essential:

  • Bachelor of Health Sciences (Medical Classification)/Bachelor of Health Information Management or other equivalent qualification and eligibility for full membership to the Health Information Management Association of Australia
  • Staff management experience within a medium to large complex health service

Desirable:

  • Knowledge/experience with using an electronic medical record (EMR) and Cerner applications
  • Knowledge/experience with using iPM (patient administration system)
  • Experience with database management i.e. Power BI reports
  • Experience with other hospital systems\software
